Traders have Emotions.

Market players, both new and seasoned, take great pride in asserting that their emotions don’t cloud their judgement when it comes to trading. Even though discussing emotions in relation to stock market trading is rather taboo, traders are still humans, and humans have emotions. When it comes to emotions, our autonomous nervous system, which is also a member of our peripheral nervous system, is what causes them to develop. Epinephrine and norepinephrine, which circulate throughout the body and trigger physical changes like an accelerated heart rate, are generated by the sympathetic nervous system. Whether or not we accept that emotions are what propels the stock market, they have the potential to shift the trend from bullish to bearish or vice versa. While making financial decisions, every trader experiences a range of emotions. Even while traders may believe they know what will happen, they don’t since the financial market is full of surprises and is dominated by tails or outliers...

The Economics of Religious India

India is a country filled with diverse cultures, languages, and religions so it is called a secular country. The multiple religions practiced in India, the conflicts which arise due to it, and the constant panic-harmony situations caused by it have intrigued me a lot which also led to further inquisitiveness about how religious India affects the economy of the country. As a to-be economist, the question arises do these religions create a hindrance in the path of development or positively influence the economy arises in my mind. To evaluate this, various economic theories and statistical tools are used by eminent researchers and economists. They note that the economy of a country is either adversely affected or positively influenced because of various factors, and religion is prominently one of them. Sriya Iyer, the author of the book ‘Economics of Religion’ explains the religion factor through the demand and supply theory wherein religion is considered to be the economic market, de...

Role of testosterone in financial decision making

The gonads (Leydig cells in the testes for men and ovaries for women) create testosterone, which is also produced in small amounts by the adrenal glands in both sexes. Testosterone is found in far higher amounts in men than in women, and its job is to ensure survival. It is also known as the sex hormone, and it is responsible for raising libido in both men and women. When it comes to decision-making, several behavioural endocrinology studies have suggested that testosterone may play a role. Studies have shown that persons with high basal testosterone had a lower aversion to risk and a higher ability to deal with conflict, fear, stress, and threat. In a study conducted by Gideon Nave, Amos Nadler, David Zava, and Colin Camerer titled “Single-Dose Testosterone injection affects cognitive reflection in men,” several studies think that testosterone is to blame for men making riskier or poor judgments. A sample of more than 200 men was taken, and a double-blind study was conducted to ensure...

Science in Economics - A Way Forward

People often get shocked when I tell them I'm pursuing a bachelor of science in economics. They often ask me, “Doesn’t economics come in arts?!” and to be honest, it is actually much more than that. Economics is a science. A science of money and economy. The rigorous statistics tools and methods used in future predictions are no less than physics and mathematics. I would like to believe that economics requires the same amount of understanding that any other science subject, with its complex methodologies and techniques.   The course of BSc Economics (Hons.) at MIT-WPU, School of Economics, provides students with the latest industry knowledge which is required and relevant in the industry right now. It consists of relevant knowledge regarding economic analysis, fundamentals, and principles of economics. The students will learn how to apply this knowledge of practical science in various fields such as society, family, government, and private sector business and science. It also dev...

The first department everybody gets to interact with is the “HR department”. This is a department that is supposed to make the process for everything which apart from them nobody follows. The HR department is like Sajid Khan films, it is super serious and has no significance at all. How can somebody fail these interviews, they ask questions like “Where do you live?”, “Are you comfortable with office timings” etc. obviously not someone answering “Boring timings, I am not working here”? Well jokes apart, let’s get to what information we seek through this blog.   THE HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT OF THE STATE BANK OF INDIA Well, we have already had a gist about what the HR department is, I want to grab your attention to what are the various strategies used by the HR department of SBI especially in recruiting. So you might wonder why SBI? Simple answer: Bank job + Government job = money+ security = DREAM Now, to fulfil this dream many would want to look into the brai...
