EDUCATION: FUTURE OF AGRICULTURE
As
it is very well quoted by Mahatma Gandhiji, “INDIA LIVES IN VILLAGES.” But are
these villages developing or do the villages have any kind of proper facility? For
all these past years we have seen that rural areas don’t have proper access to
any facility may it be education or any type of advanced technology. Providing
them with sufficient resources will help the villages prosper and thus the GDP
of the country might boost.
Now-a-days
all the agriculture practices are becoming knowledge based, it is very vital
for the farmers to get accustomed with the upcoming trends and skills in
agriculture. With globalisation and advancement of technology farmers should be
trained so that they can get acquainted and can easily compete with others. The
need of the hour is to give agriculture education more importance and make the
farmers aware about all the benefits they can receive after practicing the
modern techniques of farming rather than relying only on the traditional
farming.
Education
is the most integral part which leads to development. Being a country with
highest population of youth, India should emphasise more on providing better
and practical education. We have seen students who pursue agricultural degrees
for graduation don’t practice farming rather end up giving civil services exams.
This happens because they know that the income they might generate from a
government job will be more than the income they might generate from farming.
Agriculture
in India has not been that profitable to the farmers due to lack of awareness
of various modern techniques & subsidies they can avail. The size of land
holdings in India is very small i.e. one and half ha. Having small fields make
it difficult for them to work with the huge modern machinery. Developing
efficient irrigation facilities for the farms requires a lot of capital. In
many parts of India we can still find seasonal unemployment while during the
peak season i.e. harvesting and sowing of the crops there is acute shortage of
labour.
If
we keep on looking we can see that there are problems everywhere, but what we
can do is finding some effective solutions to overcome them. The government has
already provided the farmers with various schemes and subsidies to some of the
problems which are as follows:
1. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sinchai Yojana – to avail proper
irrigation facilities.
2. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana
3. Paramparagat Kisan Vikas Yojana.
4. Kisan Credit Card.
5. National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture.
Agriculture
being the major stake holder in the GDP of the country should be enhanced and
more facilities should be given to the farmers, where almost 52% rural people
depend on agriculture for their employment. Initiatives should be taken by the
youth so that they can make the farmers aware regarding the modern methods pf
farming and its benefits. Also the govt. has to improve the infrastructure and
R&D in the agricultural sector.
